Women members of South Asia WePower Network met Cabinet Minister of Power and New and Renewable Energy, RK Singh late in the evening. Minister RK Singh welcomed the participants of the WePower SAR-100 series. Said that he was happy to meet all these talented women today.
Mr Singh said with the increasing number of technological and economic changes impacting the power industry, the value of women in the workforce is paramount. Negotiating the global energy transition requires a diverse workforce. Representing a diversity of opinions and increasing women's participation is a strategic step towards further strengthening the energy sector industry.
The power sector is a complex sector in which a delicate balance must be struck between the interests of utilities and consumers. With a paradigm shift being witnessed to meet new customer expectations, there is tremendous pressure on utilities to harness ideas and technology platforms. Along with engineering skills, an understanding of new technologies is also required. The power ministry is helping utilities under the ambitious RDSS program modernise power distribution, while also forcing them to bring in more financials.
Over the years, these initiatives have enhanced the quality of power supply, thereby improving consumer experience and satisfaction. The efforts put in by the World Bank, AIT and NPTI for planning and implementing this visionary training module are commendable.
