National Power Training Institute (NPTI) is the National apex body for training and human resource development for the last more than 50 years. NPTI has been offering its committed service to the power industry professionals. Since its inception in 1975, it has been offering a variety of long-term and short-term training programs, seminars, and workshops in the fields of thermal power generation, transmission and distribution, and Management.

NPTI Nagpur has been serving the power industry as an elite institution in India, dedicated to educating and fostering the growth of professionals in the power industry. National Power Training Institute (NPTI), Nagpur, through its flagship Post Graduate Diploma Course in Power Plant Engineering with 100% Placement has created a niche space in the power industry. The Maharashtra-based institution was founded with the express purpose of encouraging the growth of human resources in the power industry in the Western Region under the aegis of the Ministry of Power, Govt. of India.

It has been granted recognition by the Ministry of Power, Government of India, as a Category-I (Grade-A) training institute for imparting training in Operation and Maintenance (O&M) of power plants/systems in the field of Thermal, Transmission and Distribution for five years, w.e.f. 1st July 2021 up to 30th June 2026. Engineers, supervisors, and technicians from various power utilities attend the numerous long-term, medium-term, short-term, and online training programs on power plant engineering and associated subjects offered by NPTI (WR), Nagpur for various Central/State public sector and commercial sector companies.

Apart from the specified training programs, NPTI (WR) also organizes tailor-built programs as per the training needs/requirements of power sector organizations. In the past, NPTI Nagpur has conducted customized induction-level training programs for a number of batches of MPPGCL, CSPGCL, MSPGCL, UPRVUNL, RRVUNL, GSECL, GETRI, L&T Power, TATA Power, Reliance Power, etc., for durations of 12 to 26 weeks. NPTI Nagpur conducted a two-week training program on "Management of Overhead Transmission Line Parameters" for international participants from the Republic of Burundi.

NPTI Nagpur also offers a Post Diploma in Power Plant Engineering for diploma holders, who are placed in various thermal power plants.

The institute's mission is to provide professionals with the technical know-how and skills they need to fulfill the changing needs of the energy sector. It offers state-of-the-art infrastructure and experienced faculty, including laboratories, sports facilities, a dispensary, an auditorium, a library, hostels, a conference hall, a workshop, a 210 MW fossil-fuel-fired operation simulator, and a 210 MW/500 MW/800 MW multi-function training simulator.

The goal of NPTI Nagpur is to increase the efficacy and efficiency of India's renewable energy and power sectors. Additionally, NPTI Nagpur has conducted programs under the Samarth Mission on "Use of Biomass in Thermal Power Plants" for farmers, entrepreneurs, and TPP officers.

Among the Ministry-sponsored programs, NPTI Nagpur has successfully conducted programs for MSEDCL, DGVCL, and UGVC under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme.
