Labs
NPTI Shivpuri has state of art multi-functional Simulator with a configuration of Thermal: 210 MW/ 500 MW/800 MW, Hydro: 250 MW and Smart Grid (Transmission & Distribution). This is the only simulator in India installed at NPTIs, developed for providing training to the power utilities with Smart controls for RE-Grid Integration to understand and address the flexibilization need of conventional power utilities vis-à-vis variability of available grid connected RE by grid operators and operators of GENCO’s as well as load despatchers.
Simulators
(A) 210 MW - Replica of unit no 1 of NTPC Dadri TPS.
(B) 500MW – Replica of unit no 7 of NTPC Korba TPS.
(C) 800MW – Replica of unit no 1 of NTPC Kudgi TPS.
(D) 250 MW – Hydro simulator replica of unit no 1 Nathpa Jhakri HPS.
(E) Smart Grid– Transmission Simulator replicating Five States (WR) and Two UTs of Western Grid & Distribution Simulator 33KV/11KV Substation of Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
Emulators
NPTI Shivpuri has following emulators on
(A) Solar PV Emulator for experimenting with PV cell temperature, shading, orientation, storage of power solar in batteries, performance analysis at various climate conditions.
(B) Wind Power Emulator for experimenting with Voltage-Versus-Speed Characteristic of a Wind Turbine; Torque-Versus-Current Characteristic of a Wind Turbine; Power Versus Wind Speed characteristics; Battery Storage arrangement of the Wind Energy;
(C) Micro grid Emulator for experimenting with Stand-Alone Home Energy Production (solar/wind etc); functioning of Single-Phase Grid-Tied Inverter (PWM Rectifier/Inverter); Grid-Tied Home Energy Production using a Solar or Wind Power inverter with / without DC-to-DC Converter;
(D) Smart Grid Emulator for experimenting with Large-Scale Energy Storage: a step in the implementation of the Smart Grid;
(E) HVAC Emulator with protective device for experimenting with, Voltage Regulation Characteristics; Characteristics of HVAC Transmission Line; Voltage compensation using Switched Shunt Compensation; Effect of length on the Characteristics and Voltage Compensation; Voltage Compensation of a Long, HVAC Line using distributed, Switched Shunt Compensation; Control of the Active Power flowing through Voltage-Compensated HVAC Lines, etc.
(F) HVDC Emulator for experimenting with functional layout of basic operation of HVDC power transmission system with high-voltage disconnecting switches and circuit breakers; Single bus scheme, double bus single breaker scheme; familiarization with SCADA window of substation, on-load transfer; bus coupler, circuit braker fault finder.
